Make Up Artists

Models always have a makeup artist to make them look perfect behind the camera or on the catwalk but how do you get the results at home? Here are a few tips to achieve flawless makeup.

1. Preparation: the blank canvas is a crucial step in preparing your face for makeup. This means moisturising or using an under base. You will find your foundation glides on more easily and especially important for those with dry skin.

2. The right foundation: An off-color base will make every other cosmetic you apply look not quite right. Splurge on foundation and when trying to find the right shade, blend a little from your jaw line and down to the neck to make sure the colour blends with your neck. Don't listen to those who try to tell you that you need apply a test patch to your inside of wrists. Your skin colour here is totally different to your face.

3. Coverage: Apply foundation first and then your concealer. Foundation will hide about 75% of all the discolorations you see on a bare face. Then just go in with concealers on the most obvious. You save time and product this way.

4. Eyes: Want eye shadow to be picture perfect all day? Before you apply shadow or liner, prime lids with a concealer on the lids and a little underneath the eye, blending with a sponge of foundation followed by powder. Not only will this even the tone of your eyelids, it will also make your shadows go on more smoothly and last longer.

5. Eyebrows: Even if you wear no other makeup, keeping your brows groomed perfectly gives you an instantly polished appearance.

If yours need filling use and eyebrow pencil which is 1-2 shades lighter than your hair color. The same color can look too overpowering on a face and darker than your hair color is just too severe.

Flaunt Magazine and Wayne Kao

Last night I had the privelidge of attending Wayne Kao's birthday party and the celebration of Flaunt magazines ten year anniversary. The event was not to miss with Kayne West singing happy birthday. FTV filmed the model and LA celebreities for the birthday bash. Stars featured on the night were: Eva Mendes, Kelly Osborne, Bay Ling and Kim Kardishan.

Flaunt Magazine features articles on fashion, entertainment, music, design, film, art and literature, it prides itself as being an outlet for the outsider culture. And in celebration of 10 years of this tradition there was plenty of cake to go around, with all attendees leaving the party on a high and hard to get everyone to leave due to festivities.

Flawless Skin

One thing a model must have is flawless skin. Fortunately it is something we are not just born with great skin is something that nearly everyone can cultivate.
Our skin is affected by our:
* Genes
* Inner nutrition - what we eat and drink
* Exercise
* General health and well-being
* Emotional health
* Outer nutrition - how we take care of our skin

While we can't alter our genes, we can improve our skin by making the necessary adjustments in the areas we can influence. Read on to discover the basic components of a healthy outer nutritional plan for your skin.

If you seriously want great skin the very first thing to do and wear a hat and good quality sunscreen when out in the sunshine. Having said that, let's move on to understand the next three basic foundations to great skin.

If you want your skin to look and feel great, careful cleansing is very important. This should be done first thing in the morning and last thing at night to remove pore-clogging dirt. Don't cleanse enough and you could find yourself prone to spots. Cleanse to often and you could be stripping away essential oils and be susceptible to dry skin or even eczema . Understanding your skin type (normal, dry or oily) and using a cleanser to match is the best foundation for great looking skin. Remember to rinse your face with warm water after using a cleanser, as any residue will continue to work on the skin if not completely removed.

Our grandmother's used soap and water isn’t that good enough? Soap is not very good at removing makeup because it does not contain enough oils to dissolve the staying power that most cosmetics have today. Remember the 'tight' feeling after your have washed your fact with soap? Soap can be very drying on your skin and may wash away essential oils. Another reason not to use soap is that it is not matched to the natural balance of our skin. Soap is generally alkaline, whilst skin is naturally acidic.

The second step to great outer nutrition for your skin is to tone. Toners are designed to remove any last traces of cleanser, while also helping to tighten and refine pores and prevent the build-up of dead skin cells. After toning your skin should fee and look revitalised and refreshed, and ready to be moisturised. Again you will need to apply a toner that matches your skin type.

The third foundation step is to apply moisturiser to help restore the moisture loss caused by the drying effects of sunlight, central heating, wind, cold and pollution. A good daytime moisturiser would contain a sunscreen and will be easily absorbed into the skin. At night you should use a richer, more nourishing cream, as this is when your skin more readily absorbs moisture.

Despite the plethora of products on the market and the myriad of additives. the most important ingredient of any moisturiser is water! If water is just splashed on the skin it will not say there. Moisturisers are basically oil and water emulsions which contain a humectant (a substance added to another to make it moist), which attracts water and helps 'fix' it in the upper layers of the skin.

Moisture that is lost firm the skin needs to be replaced quickly so that the surface of the skin is kept both soft and smooth. The living cells in the layers need water so that they will not shrivel up and die. A moisturiser can protect the skin by providing a varier between the skin and the external environment. It also prevents the loss of moisture from the deeper layers of the skin.

Should people who have oily skin use a moisturiser? Moisturisers are particularly recommended for people with dry skin but everyone can benefit from using a moisturiser. You simply need to ensure that you choose the correct moisturiser for your skin type. People with oily skin should choose a moisturiser that hydrates their skin whilst helping absorb any excess oil.

Inspirational Photographers

In the modeling world we work with all different types of photographers. Some for catalogues, fashion and then every so often you come across a photographer with truly different concepts that are inspirational. Last week I had the pleasure of shooting with Jeremy Davis a photographer that has a very unorthodox view of photography and truly thinks outside the box. Although in this shoot you could literally say he thinks in the box 'the t.v box'.

Congrats Jeremy and continue on with your innovative photography

Vibrant Sexy Hair

Have you always dreamed of hair that is is the hair care advertisements? There are three main steps to silky shiny hair. I have learned this through my modeling career, as it is essential to be marketable to every product.

1. You need luxury hair care products. The difference between a product in a supermarket and a hair salon is how gentle the shampoo is on your hair. Supermarket products have nasty ingredients such as detergent and silicon. Silicon coats your hair and can actually give chemical reactions with hair colours resulting in damage or even breakage. My favorite hair care shampoo is SP professional by Wella.

2. Coloring your hair damages it. If you decide to have your hair colored make sure it is by a professional. Stay within 3 shades of your natural color when going lighter, it decreases the damage and ask for a tint over a bleach.

I always like to go to a salon that has a nice atmospherics. This usually shows you that they have high revenue turn over due to regular clientele thus the quality of the service must be great. There are also different levels of hairdressers. Senior Art directors are the highest ranging to Art directors and Technicians or Stylists.

3. Invest in a good brush. The 100 strokes a day rule does not apply to shiny hair, it actually damages and creates breakage to the hair. A Denman brush creates shine through the quality of the bristles.

Now you can have the hair you always dreamed of.

Modeling Portfolio

As a model your portfolio is your strongest feature. It demonstrates your versatility of a modeling career and is your work that your are demonstrating to the client whom you want to book you.

Each model is unique in both their look and their aims as a model and your book must illustrate this. The looks required for that of an Elite fashion model and those of a swimwear and sports model will be greatly different and will therefore require different photographers who specialise in these areas.

A model can often gain advice about appropriate photographers for their portfolio through their agent, or if they do not have an agent they should seek a photographer through recommendations of models in their desired industry. It is important that they research a variety of photographers, their previous work and also their prices. Some photographers can be very expensive and if this is your first shoot this may not be a worth while investment. If you have had more experience in front of the camera it may be time to make this investment in your career.

In spite of this blog post i will attach some of my previous work.

Daily Relaxation Tequniques

Relaxation is important to every body and should be done every day. One of my favorite ways of reaxing is meditation.

Many people have never tried meditation and they truly do not know what they are missing. Our world is full of sounds, sights, and other distractions. We are bombarded with these things every day of our lives. Meditation allows you to escape from this for awhile. A chance to truly relax.

The things that must be considered include the length of time you need to devote to meditation, where you will meditate, your posture and your eye position, and very important, how to control your breathing.

One type of meditation that is definitely designed to help you stay healthy is called HRM, or Heart Rhythm Meditation. This type of meditation is used to coordinate the rhythms of your heart, your breath, and your brainwaves. It is supposed to help you create harmony within yourself. HRM incorporates several types of meditation into one.

Meditation isn't something you should just do because someone recommended you do it. It isn't something you should start doing because someone wants you to go to meditation group sessions with him or her. What works for them may not work for you. You need to explore the different forms of meditation that are out there and find one that specifically helps you.

Half Moon Bay California

Photo shoots are not as luxuries as they seem. On the long winding coastal roads of Northern California there is a town called Half Moon Bay. The crew trekked through small winding paths dirt paths through scrubs and snakes. One thing we did not expect to see was a pack of mountain lions ten feet from where we were shooting. Fortunately for us the local farmer helped us by keeping guard with his ranch's gun. The day was a success. This shoot was photographed by Ian Webb and featured International models Vanessa Brett and Amanda Jakins.
